Western Classis Ordination

Western Classis Ordination

September 2012

The Western Classis ordained elder Doug Schlegel to the Gospel ministry on Friday night, March 30, at Providence Reformed Church in Lodi, California.

The Ordination Committee was composed of Pastor Jim West (officiating), Pastor Frank Walker (who preached the charge to the new minister), and Pastor Hank Bowen (who preached the charge to the congregation.) The ordination occurred after several years of Doug’s serving as elder in the Covenant Reformed Church in Sacramento, and after several years of his studying for the ministry at City Seminary in Sacramento before his recent graduation. In fact, Pastor Schlegel was the first graduate of City Seminary to seek ordination in the Reformed Church in the United States. Accordingly, his ordination was a momentous event for both the Western Classis and City Seminary.

Immediately after his ordination, the Western Classis proceeded to install him as Pastor of Providence Reformed Church, making him the third pastor in that congregation’s history. He was preceded by Pastors Jonathan Merica and Michael Voytek.

We praise God for His goodness in raising up godly ministers to preach the Gospel of God’s sovereign grace. “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who proclaims peace, who brings glad tidings of good things, who proclaims salvation, who says to Zion, Your God reigns!” (Isaiah 52:7).
