Rev. Matthew Powell was born to Rev. C.W. and Penny Powell in 1974, while the elder Rev. Powell was serving at Faith Reformed Church of Anderson, CA. The family moved in 1986 to Colorado Springs to found Trinity Covenant RCUS. Mr. Powell felt the call to ministry in 1993 while pursuing a BA at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in political science. He finished that degree and began pursuing his M.Div. at New Geneva Theological Seminary in 1997. During this period he served first as a deacon and then as an elder at Trinity Covenant RCUS in Colorado Springs. Throughout most of seminary, Rev. Powell filled the pulpit in a student capacity on an almost monthly basis in Greeley, Limon, Karval, and Pueblo, in the mission works the RCUS had started in those churches. In 1996 he married Andrea Hager from the RCUS church in Rock Springs.
In 2003, his last year at seminary, he was contacted by Rev. Dorman Savage to consider serving as a pastoral intern in Limon, CO. Blue Cliff Reformed Church of Karval, CO (Rev. Savage’s church) had planted a chapel in Limon, but Rev. Savage was in failing health and was unable to keep up with the workload. So Rev. Powell decided to accept the offer and moved his family (one child at the time) to Limon in the summer of 2003. He served one year as an intern and since he was then finished with his degree and very close to ordination, was offered a permanent call. He accepted the call and was ordained to the RCUS and installed as Providence RCUS of Limon’s full time pastor in 2004. He served nearly nine years after that, in Limon. In 2013, he accepted a call to plant a church in Casper, Wyoming.
Pastor Powell at this time has been blessed with four children: Katie, Titus, Henry, and Allison.
