Greetings from Covenant Reformed Church in Chico, California.
On Sunday, April 29, 2018, Ethan Andrew Hekman, son of our deacon, Chris Hekman, and his wife, LaShawna, was received publicly into communicant membership through the Rite of Confirmation, which is the solemn and joyful acknowledgement by the congregation that God has confirmed His covenant promise of salvation, that was signified and sealed to Ethan in baptism, by granting repentance and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ upon his coming to the age of understanding and commitment.
Prayer was offered up to our most merciful Father in hearty thanks for the great goodness that He has been pleased to show toward Ethan, by giving him grace to confess for himself God’s covenant of salvation. God was beseeched that He would perfect the good work which He has begun in Ethan, that his whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Following the Doxology, the congregation publicly welcomed Ethan into communicant membership by the right hand of fellowship. To further celebrate, our covenant families joined together for a fellowship meal, during which time Ethan was presented with a Certificate of Confirmation and with a presentation by his father. The conclusion of Deacon Hekman’s long deliberation on what would be the perfect lasting gift to present to his son on this special occasion was an encouragement and admonition of the Lord, with continued instruction in the principles of our Christian faith and Christian responsibility, as revealed in the Scriptures, and as summarized in the Heidelberg Catechism. The congregation was most blessed.
